What it does
TV show apps ask for work: ticking episodes, keeping a list current, rating out of five stars. ATJV flips the effort. You play, and the game works out your taste. Come evening, it suggests one show, just one, available on the services you actually have.
You swipe
Shows go by, you keep or you pass. No boxes to tick, no episodes to count. A lot of signal in very little time.
You duel
Two shows face off, you decide. A ranking builds itself behind that, and your top list comes out without you writing it.
One show at night
Not a list of thirty titles. One show, with a soft spot for the gems the big algorithms never surface.
What it taught me
How to run a beta with real people, and take their feedback.
Thirteen people have been using it since August. They found things no automated test could see, and several of their notes got features removed rather than added. It is the first of my projects looked at by someone other than me.
Where it stands
The status is said plainly, including when it is not flattering.
Thirteen testers, twelfth build. It runs every day, on real phones, with real complaints.
The listing is ready. One button is left to press, then Apple’s review, whose timing is not up to me.
No date announced. Both times I gave one, Apple did not keep it.
Questions
Do I need an account?
No. The app works without one. An account only lets you find your cards on another phone and play against friends, and it can be deleted from the settings.
Is it really free?
Yes. No in-app purchase, no subscription, no ads.
Where do the shows and posters come from?
From TMDB, a community database. ATJV is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by them.
What goes out to the internet?
Your games stay on the device as long as you have no account. Crash reports are sent anonymously, so that I can fix things.
